Alois KENNEDY Obituary

Age 86, died peacefully in Naples, Florida, on December 21, 2012 Alois was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on January 24, 1926, to Alois D. Kennedy and Marion C. Kennedy. He graduated from Nativity of Our Lord Grade School and Cretin High School in St. Paul. He graduated from Northwestern University in Illinois while serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II and then received his law degree from William Mitchell Law School in St. Paul. He married his sweetheart, Virginia Brand, in 1948, and in 1952, he formed a partnership for the general practice of law in St. Paul, Minnesota, with William C. Meier after having been associated with the firm of Hoffman, Donahue, Graff and Meier. That same year, Timothy P. Quinn joined the firm which then became Meier, Kennedy and Quinn. The firm built a loyal following of individuals, non-profit entities, and churches. Bill Meier passed away in 1981, and shortly after Tim Quinn passed in 1991, Alois retired from the firm and he and his wife, Virginia, moved to Naples, Florida. The firm of Meier, Kennedy and Quinn continues the legacy of the work of its founders to this day. Alois is survived by his children: Reverend Patrick Kennedy, Mary C. Kennedy, Kathleen Burke, Virginia (Peter) Loeffler, Daniel (Janet) Kennedy, Cynthia (Robert) Snyder, Margaret (Steve) Polacek, and Ann Kennedy; son-in-law, Timothy Forrest; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; brother Laurence R. Kennedy; sister-in-law Mary Suzanne Kennedy; countless nieces and nephews. Alois is predeceased by Virginia Caroline Kennedy, his loving wife of 63 years; daughter, Judith Kennedy Forrest; parents, Alois D. Kennedy and Marion C. Kennedy; sisters, Mary Eunice Kennedy Gage and Geraldine Ann Kennedy Heck; brother-in-law, William Q. Heck; son-in-law, Michael Burke. Alois was a loving husband, devoted father, loving brother and uncle, and good friend to many throughout his life. His true legacy will be that of his generosity in caring for his wife and family of nine children. His strong work ethic and his ability to help others will always be remembered by his former friends and colleagues. The family would like to thank in-home caregivers Patrick and Mike from BrightStar Care and the compassionate staff of Avow Hospice in Naples, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 5130 Rattlesnake Hammock Road, Naples, FL 34113-7448, or donor's choice. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Pax Christi Catholic Community, 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie, MN 55347. Dear Family,
I had the great pleasure of meeting Al, and had him do some legal work for my family in 1984, and had admired him because he was so professional and just a wonderful person to us. Al left a lasting impression on me. You have my deepest sympathy.

Dear Kennedy family:
I was saddened to hear of your dad's passing. My parents named me after their two best friends, Bob Keith and Al Kennedy, and your dad was a big part of my life growing up. I have such great memories of time spent with your parents, especially as neighbors on Sand Lake. Mr. Kennedy was remarkably patient with me as he taught me how to water ski. I can still see him circling the boat for the eighth time after I fell and yelling over the side, "Do it again. You can't make mayonaise without breaking a few eggs." I've used the same line teaching my kids to ski. We always knew we were loved as if we were part of the same big family. Know that our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

Dear Kennedy family,
We were saddened to hear the news of the loss of your father. He and your Mom were a major part of our childhood memories. Such a great couple! The Kennedys and Keiths were among the few families who would invite all 9 of us "kids" to their home. We remember the fun and laughter our parents and siblings shared with you on many occasions. May you find comfort knowing your Dad is at peace, and with loved ones who have gone before him. Our love and prayers,
Peggy Van Kirk
