Raymond J. WELSH Sr. Obituary
Loving Husband, Father Grandpa & Great Grandpa Age 83, of St. Paul, died peacefully after an on-going battle with cancer on December 25, 2012. Preceded in death by sister, Eileen C. Welsh. Survived by loving wife Joan of 60 years; children: R. John Jr. (Cecilia), Mary, William, Christine (Brent) Ruhl and Patricia (Patrick) Nesheim; 12 grandchildren, who cherished his wisdom, optimism and warmth and will always think of him as a loving person who took pride in each of them. They include Captain Raymond Welsh III "RJ", Charlie Welsh, Andria (Allen) Clark, Kelly Welsh-LaFond, Daniel and Rebecca Lumbar, Brent Ruhl Jr., Jeffrey Ruhl, Nicole Ruhl, Thomas Ruhl, Ryan Nesheim and Jennifer Nesheim; great grandchildren, Christopher Welsh-Clark and Noah Ruhl. A graduate of St. Thomas Military Academy, he served honorably in the U.S. Army and returned home to graduate from the University of Minnesota. Ray worked for only two employers in his career in the communications industry, Northwestern Bell and Reliable Electric. His business career meshed well with his passion for golf, which was second only to his family. His motto "never give up" suited him well in life and on the golf course. He loved to attend his childrens' and grandchildrens' activities, and in many cases, scheduling his business trips around these activities. He especially enjoyed attending St. Thomas Academy and Saint John's University football games. Generosity and caring were core values with his very frequent visits to see his sister Eileen. Organizations such as the Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Thomas Academy, and Nativity of Our Lord were supported with his time, talent and treasure as he valued a Catholic education and the sanctity of life. Your donation, in lieu of flowers, to any of the above, will honor Ray. The family extends their deepest thanks to all those who cared for Ray during his illness, most notably the VA Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Monday, December 31, 2012 at NATIVITY OF OUR LORD CATHOLIC CHURCH (324 S. Prior at Stanford Ave., St. Paul) with visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arr. O'HALLORAN AND MURPHY FUNERAL HOME 651-698-0796.
