Lorrain was born and raised in Stillwater MN. She graduated from Stillwater High School in 1933 and after graduating from Lee's Beauty School soon became the manager of the beauty shop at the Lowell Inn. During the early 1940's Lorrain joined the Red Cross and worked with the blood mobile unit. With six more weeks of training she would have been able to drive an ambulance in World War II. Lorrain did not attend college until 1971 when, at age 56, she resurrected her missed opportunity. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and a double minor in German and Music History. After receiving her degree, Lorrain was given a yearlong job teaching English as a Second Language and reading to three students from Bogota, Columbia, ages 8, 7, and 5. Lorrain was a host mother to foreign exchange students; Claudine Martin, from Louviers, France, Marta and Chello Gonzales from Raynosa, Mexico and Maria Riveadeneira (Juergens) from Quito, Ecuador. Maria now resides in North Oaks, MN with her husband (Hugh) and has always remained a "daughter" to Lorrain. Once Lorrain's children were grown she volunteered at Hastings Hospital for 10 years and for her contribution received an engraved gold medal and recognition dinner hosted by Governor Elmer Anderson. Lorrain was a self-proclaimed "jack of all trades and a master of none". As a child and into her final days Lorrain played the piano. In high school she played Alto saxophone and sat first chair in the city band. She mastered the organ and dabbled with other instruments as well. Lorrain also loved to paint and took many painting classes in water color and acrylic medium while wintering in Green Valley, AZ where she and her husband owned a second home. She also took pride in designing two beautiful homes in Stillwater, MN overlooking the St. Croix River. One of which her father, a skilled carpenter, built himself. Lorrain was blessed to have had the support of many friends in her final years. She was thankful for the helping and caring souls of Nora Johnson, Tina Swan, Mary Huelsmann, First Stat care takers and the staff of St. Croix Hospice. A private service was held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 followed by a private family interment at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are welcomed to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stillwater, MN. 2800 Curve Crest Blvd., Stillwater 651-439-5511
