Mary E. MINTON Obituary
1911-2013 Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Friend Mary died peacefully on May 9, 2013, surrounded by members of her family. Mary lost her husband Emmett in 1982 and was also preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Molly Doran, all of her siblings, six older brothers, and her daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Minton (Bob). Survived by her children, Bob, John (Geri), Pat (Patti), Molly Trafas (Dick), Kathleen Binger (Lee), and Jane (Tim Campbell). Also survived by 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Mary grew up on a small farm near Marysburg and met Emmett when she was a senior at All Saints High School in Madison Lake in 1929. After a year in college and a brief teaching career, Mary married Emmett in 1931 and began raising a family on a Shieldsville farm during the heart of the Great Depression. In 1941, the family moved to Belle Plaine, where Mary has lived ever since. In addition to her role as mother at the center of a large family, Mary became involved with the community. Once Jane, her youngest, entered school in the early 1960's, Mary worked at Excelsior Plastics and after her retirement in 1976 worked for Community Dining in Belle Plaine. She's always been involved in parish life, first at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and later at Our Lady of the Prairie. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, the PTA, and served in several offices in the LAAOH, including Treasurer, Vice-President, and State President (1983-86). Mary enjoyed playing cards and belonged to several bridge and euchre clubs for many years. She especially enjoyed playing "dirty buck" for modest stakes, a nickel a game, a nickel a buck. Everyone who knew Mary loved her and will miss her. She lived this long because we needed her. Please join us on Saturday, May 18 to celebrate Mary's life at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church, 215 North Chestnut Street, Belle Plaine, MN 56011. Visitation at 10:00 am before Mass at 11 a.m. The family will be grateful if you make contributions in Mary's name to a worthy cause, like OLP Church and School or All Saints Catholic School in Madison Lake. And even though Mary's place in Heaven is secure, she will smile on you if you arrange for masses on her behalf.
