Thomas Samuel MAPLE Jr. Obituary
Age 88, of Bloomington Formerly of Deephaven On June 4, 2013. Tom grew up in SW Minneapolis and at Lake Minnetonka. He graduated from Washburn HS, attended the University of Minnesota, received an officer's commission in the U.S. Navy, and served in WWII and the Korean Conflict. In 1950, he married Barbara Jansen and they were inseparable for 63 years. He had a long career in real estate sales, finance and residential mortgage insurance. Tom was also very active in the community and was involved in the U.S. Naval Reserve, Navy League of the United States, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, Gyro International, the Mortgage Bankers Association, and the Minneapolis Board of Realtors. In addition he held leadership roles in the Minnetonka Yacht Club, Lake Minnetonka Conservation District and Minnehaha Creek Watershed District. Tom's civic work dating back to the 1970s helped secure clean water for both Lake Minnetonka and the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District. Tom was an environmentalist ahead of his time; he knew the value of trees and clean water. Tom's first love was his family. He is preceded in death by parents Margaret and Thomas Maple, brother William Maple and sister Mary Maple Provost. He is survived by wife, Barbara: daughters, Kate Maple (William Driver), Margaret Hill (Mark), Nancy Ellsworth (Tom), Anne Maple (Scott Carpenter); son Thomas (Kaylen); grandchildren, Jeremy (Stacia) Driver, Elspeth Driver, Charlie Driver, Jannette Peterson, Elizabeth Skilbeck (Christopher), Sally Butler (Tim), Jesse Hill (Katie), Sam Hill, Katie Ellsworth, Anne Levine (Matt), Paul Carpenter, Muriel Carpenter, Phillip Maple, Matthew Maple, Pete Maple, Robbie Maple; seven great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank all of Tom's care givers at Friendship Village of Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Minnetonka Yacht Club Foundation, Cottagewood Community Foundation, or the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District Stewardship Education Fund. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, June 28 at 10 AM, with visitation one hour prior, all at Pax Christi Catholic Church, 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie. Interment 12 Noon Thurs., June 27 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. 952-924-4100
