Bob your example still reminds me that we must respond to a higher standard. You'd be glad i have broken free of raffles and stick to pure sweepstakes with their no purchase entries. See you soon my friend, see you soon.

Bob was without a doubt one of the most unselfish, caring and loving people I've ever had the honor to call my friend.

My sister strugled with and died from PF which Bob and I discussed. He knew her struggles and I knew his, as only one who has known that that terrible fight to breathe can know.

To say he'll be missed is a major understatement. A genuine hero has left us.

Bob was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis before I met him 6 years ago. But he wasn't telling us. Instead he was attending Sweepstakes Conventions, helping and encouraging all of us. For years he gave advice to his fellow sweepers on legal and tax issues. Bob graduated from Harvard Law School. After hearing my little speech at the San Antonio Convention, he convinced this High School graduate that I could step out of my comfort zone and be the Keynote Speaker at the Minnesota Convention he was hosting. During the year leading up to that, Bob emailed often and made sure I had ever detail covered. I wanted to give out "specially marked" candy and drinks. Bob volunteered to round it all up, searching stores in the area. He made me feel like I was worth the trouble. But the thing I realize about Bob now, is that he made us all feel like that! What a treasure he was!

Once his illness was too obvious to hide, he talked about it openly and always in a positive light. He was simply amazing. The last email I have from Bob came before Thanksgiving. He was still actively doing everything he could to enjoy life. He was pleased that his doctor had said "let's see if we can get through the Holidays before calling Hospice." Bob stayed with us as long as he could. He supported Sweeping America, and I often gladly accepted his offer to represent us and speak on our behalf.

I asked him once if he had a message for the Sweepers when he was gone. He said to tell them to never give up, and to be really good to each other.

We love you, Bob!

I am so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I cherish the time that I did get to know him during the various sweepstakes conventions, and as an active member of our This N' That Sweepstakes Club. I totally enjoyed listening to him speak on his wealth of knowledge and he was instrumental in helping me as a speaker at our Northeast Mini Convention. The meetings, the national conventions, being the person to run to for tax info, and just knowing that you would get a big smile and kind words will be surely missed for many years to come.
Bob, I am glad that we were friends and that you are at peace now. I know you will be watching over your family and close friends.

This is sad news indeed but joyous for Bob who is now rejoicing in the presence of the Lord. Bob knew 2 years ago in Atlanta, it would be his last sweepstakes convention. His Christian example had a profound positive affect on me and Jim. He was direct but tactful and did not compromise his standards. We will miss him and his well-thought out emails. He often talked me back from ‘the end of the branch' to a position of reasonable calmness. Of all the people we have met in this hobby in 25 years, he was the one with the most integrity, a person to really look up to. Bob always tried to do the right thing according to absolute, unmovable biblical standards. From home as a near shut-in in recent months, he would still have time to give out tax advice to sweepers and friends. Gracious and never greedy, happy and ever hopeful, Bob led a fulfilled life. We have lost a dear friend and want his family to know how respected Bob was by many people. We will always love you Bob. Jim and Valerie Layton

I met Bob several years ago at the MN Sweepstakes group. He was always funny, quick to smile, and extremely generous in sharing his tax advice, winning tips, and extra prizes on our free drawing table.

A few years ago, Bob and I were some of the Minnesota sweepers who attended the National Sweepstakes Convention in San Antonio, Texas. I tried to talk to Bob a few times there, but he was constantly being mobbed by his other many sweeper friends from all over the U.S. who wanted to chat with him.

The last time Bob attended one of our MN Sweeper meetings at Culver's this summer, I was lucky enough to sit at his table. Even though he using a portable oxygen tank and wasn't feeling too well, he still managed to crack jokes and share his generous spirit with our group.

My thoughts go out to all of Bob's family and friends. As a sweeper, I use the term "lucky" a lot -- and I was definitely "lucky" to have known Bob. Rest well, my friend, and I hope you brought along a lot of stamps and 3" x 5" index cards.

December 15, 2013

My sister and I met Bob at our very first Sweepstakes Convention in Michigan. He was very kind to us. We mingled with him at every Convention he has been at since then, and he was a wonderful man.
