Sydney Frances Bertsch

1919-2009

Sydney Bertsch, long time Sacramento area resident passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2009, at the age of 90. She was born in Ukiah, CA, where she grew up and graduated from Ukiah High School. She later attended San Francisco State College. Shortly after leaving college, she met her soon to be husband, William Bertsch. He proposed to his lovely lady on Christmas Day and married September 28th, 1941. She was preceded in death by her loving husband in 2001 William Sr. (Bill) Bertsch, by her sister Marguerite Vinter and brother Edward Sanford.

Sydney was a genuine party girl and lived life by the motto: Live, Laugh, and Love. She was a longtime member of Sierra View Golf and Country Club where she and Bill, enjoyed their favorite sport, golf. Sydney also enjoyed swimming, waterskiing, RV camping, and playing duplicate bridge. When her children were all in school she worked for Welcome Wagon greeting area newcomers in the greater Sacramento area. She was later employed by the U.S. Census Bureau for 15 years.

 She is survived by two sisters, Hazel Whipple and Mary Pope, her four children and their spouses, Marilyn and Thomas Stiver, Robin and Bill Colin, William Jr. and Joy Bertsch, and Laurie and Chris Anderson; seven grand children, Nicole Stiver, Danielle Tucker, Brieann Bertsch-Stuflick, Samantha Bertsch, Cassidy Bertsch, Christopher Anderson, Lindsey Anderson, and her great-grand daughter Riley Tucker.

A celebration of her life for family and friends will be on Friday, July 31, 2009 at 2:00 PM, Sunrise Assisted Living of Fair Oaks, 4820 Hazel Avenue, Fair Oaks, CA 95628. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in memory of Sydney Bertsch to your favorite charity.
