In Memory of the Life of Frances Irene Watkins Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother 1916 - 2014 Although we loved you dearly, We could not make you stay, With a heavy heart we watched As you very slowly slipped away. With loving heart and spirit in tact You left quietly, now lying at rest, A peaceful ending for the very best. - Marilynn Collin Born in Oregon on December 29, 1916, Frances was an only child whose mother died at a young age. She was raised primarily by her father, Samuel "King", they became very close. Frances met the love of her life at the tender age of 17 at a county fair. It was love at first sight and she and Ervin Watkins married a year later on November 4, 1934 in Medford, Oregon. In the years that followed, they gradually made their way to California. While living in Arcata, Frances had their only child, Marilynn Lee. This was after nine years of marriage and being told she likely could never conceive. She liked to tell the story of her "nine month flu" which is what she thought it was at the outset! In 1945, they moved to Ukiah where they resided for over 60 years. Ervin worked until retirement for the late Frank M. Crane, commercial builder and contractor. Frances worked as well, mainly in retail. She loved people and will be remembered for being hardworking, organized, outgoing, fun-loving and always ready for an adventure. Her friends knew her to be thoughtful, generous and kind. She was a talented seamstress, had a keen eye for color, and took great pride in her appearance and home. Frances was happiest during the holidays and on special occasions with her family. Frances is survived by her daughter Marilynn Collin of Beaverton, Oregon, granddaughter Lisa Leighton, and great grandchildren Colby and Cameron of Orange County; a small family with a large capacity to love. Arrangements were made through Eversole Mortuary of Ukiah. Frances' final resting place will be with her husband in Evergreen Memorial Gardens' Columbarium in Ukiah. The family wishes any memorials be made to RSNC (Rehabilitation Services of Northern California) benefiting Alzheimer's and Adult Day Health Care Programs, 490 Golf Club Road, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523. Condolences may be sent to Marilynn Collin, 7220 SW 27th Ct., Beaverton, OR 97008.
