Obituary Condolences

Harold E. Curtis Harold E. Curtis of Ukiah passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Redwood Cove Healthcare. Born October 3, 1929 in New York City, he graduated from St. Lawrence University, the University of Arizona and received a Master's Degree from San Francisco State College. He served his country in US Air Force. Hal worked for Dorman's Hotel Supply, the Better Business Bureau and retired as an English teacher from Ukiah High where he taught for 22 years. Hal took flying lessons and flew his solo flight in 1974. Hal loved jazz music and had an extensive collection of jazz records, tapes and CD's. He hosted the jazz show on K-Wine for many years. He and his wife Barbara played in their local jazz band, he on drums and Barbara on piano. They enjoyed this for many years, playing for parties and events. He and Barbara received a "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the City of Ukiah in 2005 for their dedication in sharing their love of music. He was proud of helping produce a record of their local band and several CD's of Barbara. He was very proud of his wife and all she had accomplished. He loved all dogs! While he couldn't have one at Brookside, our family dogs would visit him and would always cheer him up. Hal is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Barbara Curtis of Ukiah, daughter Terry Manning of Ukiah, son Scott Curtis of Hercules, grandchildren Lisa Strom, Michael Manning, Jeremy Curtis, great grandchildren Keri and Allie Strom. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold A. Curtis and Charlotte (Modersohn) Curtis-Tumbridge. A gathering may be planned at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society for Inland Mendocino County. Eversole Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
