Obituary Condolences

Terrence Leigh McGillivray, 66, of Ukiah died Monday March 25th following an eight year battle with prostate cancer. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends. Terry was born October 16, 1946 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The majority of his childhood was spent in Denver, but Terry would spend summers with his dad at a lake in Minnesota. These summers fishing and boating with his father were among his fondest childhood memories, and he continued to love being out on the water all of his life. After receiving his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois in 1969, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to begin his lifelong dream of being an engineer. For many years, he worked in San Francisco at PMB Engineering, a Bechtel subsidiary with offices in San Francisco, Houston, and London. In 1986, he became president and CEO of PMB, and successfully led a team of over 50 engineers. During this time he lived with his family in Santa Rosa, where he owned a small vineyard. On weekdays he would commute into the city, but on weekends he could frequently be found riding the tractor in the vineyard, working on his many home projects or on camping trips with his two daughters. In 1990, Terry traded in his corporate suits for country life and blue jeans, and he and his family moved to Ukiah. It was here that he engineered and built his own home, and founded Mendocino Engineering. For over twenty years he ran his engineering company, and for the last six he worked side by side with his wife and engineering partner Debora. He loved working in this community, and in particular enjoyed all of the wonderful people he met. In addition to being an excellent engineer, Terry was, above all else, a dedicated and loving family man. He had no greater pleasure than spending time with family and friends and going on adventures, both near and far, often with his beloved dogs in tow. His quick wit, kind heart, and warm smile will be missed by many. Terry is survived by his wife Debora McGillivray, daughters Allison and Shannon McGillivray, step-daughter Heather Ellison, step-son Harold Ellison and his wife Savanna, ex-wife and friend Edy McGillivray, and numerous other close family members and cherished friends. A memorial gathering will be held at Terry and Debora's home, 505 Cypress Ave in Ukiah on Saturday April 6th from 1-4pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the local Humane Society, Animal Shelter, or to the .
