Raymond "Skip" James Van Osten Jr. Roseville -- Raymond 'Skip' James Van Osten, Jr, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 10th at the age of 82 with his family by his side at Pine Creek Care Center. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Patsy, his children: sons Raymond James III, Eric Clifton and daughter Kathleen Van Osten; grandchildren Kirsten, Leah, Raymond and Schielah, and four great-grandchildren. Skip was born in Norfolk, Virginia. He was a Korean War Veteran, and served 20 years in the Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant and Telcom Systems Control Superintendent. He and his family traveled the world during his military service, including Formosa (Taiwan), Turkey, Spain and England. He received a Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, several Good Conduct Medals and Air Force Longevity Service Awards. After his military service, he worked at the FBI and the US Dept. of Treasury before retiring to the private sector. Skip was an avid Glenn Miller fan and aficionado who cut a mean jitterbug. He enjoyed traveling, history, family geneology and gardening. Services will be held at the LDS Church at 520 Clark Avenue in Yuba City on Saturday, May 17th at 11:00 a.m. He will be interred at the Sacramento Valley National Veterans Cemetery in Dixon, California.
