UNION — Mrs. Mary Ellen Inman Chambers, 85, 212 Seigler Road, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House, she was predeceased by her husband of 59 years George Chandler Chambers.
Mrs. Chambers was born in Union, SC on Aug. 12, 1928 a daughter of the late George and Mamie Vaughan Inman. She was a graduate of Union High School and Spartanburg Technical College. Mrs. Chambers was retired from Family Practice of Union. She was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church where she was a choir member and a member of WMU. Mrs. Chambers was an active contributor to Relay For Life and also contributed to various scholarships at North Greenville University. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Jo Lancaster and husband Mark of Buffalo; a granddaughter, Kelly Scott and husband David of Union; a grandson, Matthew Lancaster of Buffalo; two sister-in-laws, Beuna Inman of Union and Gwendlyn Fisher of Buffalo; a niece, Mamie Bailey and husband Dwight of Simpsonville; four nephews, Torance Inman and wife Bernice of Union, Ralph Inman and wife Patricia of Marrietta, GA, Bobby Eaves and wife Faye of Greer, and G.I. Inman and wife Midge of Madisonville, TN.
Mrs. Chambers was predeceased by two sisters and seven brothers.
Funeral Services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Scott Cobb and Mr. Torance Inman. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Jeremy Gallman, Jamison England, Jimmy Rose, Marty Phillips, Burl Hawkins, Phillip Fisher, and Thomas Inman.
The following are asked to form the honorary escort, Jimmy Chastain, Jeremy Hockgeiger, Mark Bailey, Joel Eaves, Benny Kershaw, Brad Freeman, Will Cobb, and Dr. David Keith.
Visitation will be held from 1:45-2:45 p.m. prior to the services at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Union County Relay For Life, 135 West Main Street, Union, SC 29379 or to Spartanburg Regional Hospice House, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Kathy Jo and Mark Lancaster 2212 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy., Buffalo, SC 29321.
