Trustee Anthony Durant Lipsey

UNION — Trustee Anthony Durant Lipsey, fondly called "Randy," was born June 12, 1956, in Union, SC, to the late Minnie Lee Hooker Lipsey and Willie James Lipsey. While asleep, he peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on Saturday, April 14, 2018.

Reared in a Christian home, Anthony accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. He was baptized at Corinth Baptist Church in Union, SC, where he faithfully served as a member of the choir, Junior Missionary and the Drama Ministry. Anthony attended Union County Public Schools and graduated from Union High School in 1974. After high school graduation, he went on to matriculate at Benedict College in Columbia, SC, and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. While at Benedict College, Anthony pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Anthony's professional career started with Eastern Airlines in Salt Lake City, UT for two years. He then moved to New York and worked for Chemical Bank.

While living in New York, he attended Walker Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Joe A. Bush. Anthony lived in New York until 1986 then he moved back to Union, SC to help take care of his mother. He returned to Corinth Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee, Financial Secretary, on the Audio Ministry and assisted with the day care center. No job at church was too small for Anthony.

Anthony was employed with the Department of Juvenile Justice until his health declined. He was known to help young people stay out of jail. He also helped parents deal with troubled children. Anthony was involved in community services in Union, SC. He served on the Housing Authority Board and also ran for City Council. Anthony was one of those people who saw a need and took action. He was a caring person who took care of many sick people in the church and in the May Street Community.

Anthony was the fifth of six sons. He was preceded in death by his brother, Willie Alfred Lipsey in 2013.

To cherish his memories, Anthony leaves four brothers, James Herbert (Fannetta), Ralph (Betty), Albert (Anne), Manning Lee (Tammy); two sisters, Alma Lee Darby and Deborah; one uncle, Arthur Lee Lipsey; two aunts, Carrie E. Wilson and Remattie Petty; a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Cornith Baptist Church with burial to follow in Mt. Rowell Baptist Church Cemetery.
