Winston Jones

NEWBERRY — Winston Churchill Jones, 76, of Newberry, died Monday, August 6, 2018 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.

Born December 30, 1941 in Union, SC, he was a son of the late A. Paul "AP" and Lulu Galloway Jones.

He served with the SC National Guard for seven years and worked in the retail grocery store industry retiring from Food Lion. He was a member of Amity Masonic Lodge #87 and a member and ordained Deacon of Glenn Street Baptist Church.

He was also an avid Newberry College fan.

For twenty years, Mr. Jones and his wife ran Nett's Day Care where he was known by the children as Papa Wins.

Mr. Jones was a loving and devoted grandfather who treasured spending time with his grandchildren and tried to be present for all of their activities. He was also a supportive father and the type of person who would do anything for anyone.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Annette Vaughn Jones; children, Terry Jones and wife Kim of Carrollton, GA, and Wendy Roberts and husband Jeff of Prosperity; grandchildren, Adam Roberts (Ashley), Keely Jones Green (Kaleb), Savannah Roberts and Ian Roberts; and a sister, Betty Jean Alexander (Roy) of Anderson.

He was predeceased by five brothers and four sisters.

The family will received friends from 6-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8 at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Glenn Street Baptist Church in Newberry with the Rev. Michael Whitesides officiating.

Interment with Masonic Rites will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.
