BATESBURG — Rev. Larry Kent Patterson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and pastor, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, March 31, 2014.

He was born Feb. 27, 1942 in Union, South Carolina to Sam and Lovelia Patterson.

He was predeceased by his parents, and his brothers, James, Norman and Leon Patterson.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judith Garrett Patterson; four children and their spouses, Teresa and Mark Fox, Robert and Jeanette Patterson, Amy and Wally Gantt and Bryan and Dana Patterson. He was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren, Judson Fox, Austin Gantt, Rachel Patterson, Forest Gantt, Dalton Gantt, Micala Fox, Gabriel Patterson, Savannah Gantt and Chloe Patterson. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews and their families, to the third generation.

He worked as assistant manager at Belk of Union, SC until he received his call from the Lord to the ministry. He graduated from Union High School, received a business degree from Cornell University and an associate degree in Religion/Church Ministries from Fruitland Bible Institute. He served as pastor at Hulon Baptist Church in Batesburg, SC, Covenant Baptist Church in Union, SC, and Stevens Memorial Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC, returning to serve at Hulon Baptist Church for the last 13 years for a total of 25 years serving at Hulon.

In previous years, he was the moderator for the Lexington Baptist Association and served on the General Board of the South Carolina Baptist Convention, Mission Committee, Baptist Foundation Committee, Resolution Committee and Nominating Committee. He served as Chaplain for the Lexington Baptist Association and was also a substitute teacher at Batesburg Middle School.

The family would like to thank Palmetto Health Hospice and South Carolina Oncology Association for all their care and support.

Visitation will take place at Hulon Baptist Church in Batesburg from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, and the funeral service will be at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, at Hulon Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery with Rev. Earl Hartley officiating.
