MANCHESTER - Athena F. Hallinan, 93, passed away on March 31, 2013, at the Elliot Hospital. She was born on Dec. 18, 1919, in Raymond, the daughter of the late Nitsa and George Fasekis.
Athena was employed, for many years, by the U.S. government, working at the V.A. Medical Center and the New Boston Air Station. After her retirement, she worked for the city of Manchester at West High School, also for Mayor Shaw, where she received a "Key to the City of Manchester." At the time of her sudden death, she was an active volunteer at the Elliot Hospital.
She was a longtime member of the Manchester Woman's Club and the Daughters of Fourka, and until its closing, she attended Our Lady Perpetual Help Church.
Athena was survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert F. Hallinan; her son, David F. Hallinan and his wife Deborah; a granddaughter, Kathryn M. Hallinan of Manchester; a grandson, Sean D. Hallinan of Hooksett; sisters, Sophia Gerasi, Dorothea Fasekis, and Kay Fasekis, all of Manchester; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
services: Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, in Goodwin Funeral Home, 607 Chestnut St., Manchester. A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, in St. Anthony of Padua Parish, 172 Belmont St., Manchester.
