GOSHEN - Bertha H. (Siegers) VanDenBerg, 92, of Ball Park Road, died Dec. 10, 2012, at The Clough Center in New London.
She was born in Prospect Park, N.J., on Nov. 15, 1920, the daughter of Jacob R. and Minnie (Beekman) Siegers.
She graduated from Pompton High School, Pompton Lakes, N.J., where she was valedictorian of her class. Mrs. VanDenBerg lived in Midland Park, N.J., before moving to Newbury in 1984 and then to Goshen in 2009, where she resided with her son and his wife.
She was a true homemaker enjoying her whole family and her special friend, Zoey, the dog. Baking and cooking were her specialties as she kept busy during the days. She was a loving, considerate, caring and beautiful person who was tender and warm and a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. The family considered her a prayer warrior as they would ask her to pray for them as her most important thing in her life was her devotion to her Lord and Savior.
Bertha liked gardening, birdwatching and painting landscapes and crafts such as birdhouses, which she found great pleasure in giving to her family. She enjoyed Christian and quiet music and loved to play the organ.
She was predeceased by her husband, John VanDenBerg, in 1986 and also her sister, Henrietta B. Naglehout. Members of her family surviving include two sons and wives, John and Brenda VanDenBerg of Goshen and Paul and Karen VanDenBerg of Newbury; two daughters, Marcia VanDenBerg of Bradford and Jacquelyn and her husband, Vinnie Lopiano of Weston, Conn.; 18 grandchildren, Melissa, Scott, Mark, Sarah, Paul, Corey, Tricia, Joseph, Cara, Coby, Jaben, Elijah, Hannah, Jeremy, Kelsey, Courtney, Kirstyn and Aleks; many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: Friends may call at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main St., New London, on Saturday at 10 a.m., with a service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Marshall Cemetery, South Newbury.
