HUDSON - Catherine M. Valley, 84, a well-known Hudson resident, died Sunday morning, Dec. 30, 2012, at Greenbriar Terrace in Nashua, after a period of declining health. Her husband of 42 years, Norman L. Valley, died Jan. 28, 1991.
A resident of Hudson for the past 64 years, Mrs. Valley was born on May 3, 1928, a daughter of the late Joseph H. and Mary (Teagin) Bellefeuille. She was educated in local schools and was a graduate of Nashua High School, Class of 1945. Cathy attended Rivier College and was active in the RISE program.
During World War II
, she was a member of the Civil Air Defense.
Mrs. Valley worked for many years at the former J.F. McElwain Shoe Company in Nashua as an administrative secretary and later with Amica Mutual Insurance Company in Bedford until she retired at age 70.
Cathy was a longtime member of the Hudson Sewer and Utility Committee and was a volunteer of Ann Marie House. She was a member and officer of the Nashua Historical Society and served on several committees. Mrs. Valley served on the Nashua Bicentennial Committee in 1976 and the board of directors of the Nashua YWCA. An active Democrat, Cathy was a volunteer worker at the Democratic National Convention in Boston in 2004.
She and her husband, Norman, enjoyed traveling to Florida and both earned their private pilot's license. Cathy loved animals, especially her Irish setter; and also enjoyed cultural events in Boston and was a sports enthusiast.
Members of her family include two nieces and a nephew, Vivian Morin and her husband, Guy, of Portage, Ind., Richard Bergeron and his wife, Patricia, of Manchester and Marlene Abood and her husband, Ken, of Lee; also 13 grandnieces and grandnephews; 14 great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; and dear friends Marvis and Frank Mellen of Nashua and their daughter, Carroll Feuer of Florida, and Claudette Durocher of Litchfield.
services: Calling hours will be held at the Farwell Funeral Home, 18 Lock Street, Nashua, on Friday, Jan. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Kathryn Church, 4 Dracut Road in Hudson, Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Hudson. Friends are invited to attend.
