RYE - Charles E. Ireland, 92, a resident of Webster at Rye, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012. He had previously lived in Bedford for 10 years and Merrimack for 52 years prior to that.
He was born Dec. 9, 1920, in Newburyport, Mass., a son of the late Harold K. and Myrtle (Forsey) Ireland.
Charlie was raised in Greenfield, Mass., graduating from Greenfield High School with the Class of 1938, Colgate University in 1942 and attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute following World War II
He served in the Army
Signal Corps during World War II and was stationed on Adak Island in the Aleutian Islands from 1943 to 1945. He was employed as an electronics engineer by Sprague Electric Company of Nashua and Raytheon Corporation in Andover, Mass.
He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Rau) Ireland for 51 years.
He is survived by his son, Arthur K. Ireland and his wife, Kristin, of Santa Fe, N.M.; his brother, Nathaniel Ireland and his wife, Helen, of Coralville, Iowa; his grandson, Keith and his wife, Pamela, of Playa del Rey, Calif.; his granddaughter, Kaisa and her husband, Kyle, of Mountainair, N.M.; great-granddaughter Kara; three nieces and four nephews.
