GOFFSTOWN - Claire R. Grady, 84, of Goffstown, died Dec. 3, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her loving family following a two-year battle with cancer.
She was born on Jan. 2, 1928, in Whitefield, to Joseph and Mary Crepeau. She was educated in the local school system and graduated from Mount Saint Mary College, Hooksett, in 1949.
While attending "the Mount," Claire met Henry T. Grady and they married on Dec. 27, 1948. They lovingly raised seven children, living happily together in Manchester and then Goffstown until Henry's death in November, 2006. Throughout their time in Goffstown, Claire was an unwavering supporter of Henry's involvement in town governance and the Goffstown Historical Society.
While caring for her family was Claire's priority, she was also committed to helping others. For 25 years she worked in the Manchester Program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, initially as a volunteer, then as an educational assistant. Following her retirement, she continued on as a volunteer at Green Acres School as well as with CMC's Community Services at Prime Time.
Prior to her illness she enjoyed volunteering her time at her nephew's store Sports Fans and Collector's Heaven, visiting with friends, bowling with the Teachers League, watching the Red Sox and knitting hats for newborn babies both for friends and for Mom's Place at CMC.
In addition to being the best wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Claire was also a "favorite aunt," a dear friend, a loving caretaker and a "substitute Mom" to many. Despite not being able to hear, she was a thoughtful, intuitive and amazing listener. She loved her family and spending time with them above all else, but her friends and extended family held a huge place in her heart.
Claire was predeceased by her beloved husband, Henry, as well as her parents and eight siblings. She is survived by her sister, Therese Caggiula of Colebrook and many nieces and nephews.
Claire will be forever loved and missed by her children and their spouses, Patricia and Steven Storm of Hooksett, Hank and Shelly Grady of Manchester, Dan and Janice Grady of Eliot Maine, Maureen and Dennis Stone of Manchester, Theresa and Richard Fitzgerald of Milford, Karen and Mark Burkush of Manchester and Suzanne and Brian Boisclair of Goffstown. Claire will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Christopher and Sarah Storm, Travis and Elizabeth Storm, Jessica Storm, Alex Grady, Kevin Grady, Nathan Stone and Kate-Lyn Stone, and her great-grandchildren, Seth Douglas, Ryan Storm, Brady Downing and Brody Stone.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at French and Rising Funeral Home, 17 South Mast St., Goffstown.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence Church in Goffstown. Burial will take place at Westlawn Cemetery in Goffstown in the spring.
