SANDWICH - David Lawrence Healy, 79, of Sandwich, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Concord Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Newark, N.J., on Oct. 5, 1934, he was the son of Clyde Lawrence and Marjorie (Osgood) Healy. David was raised in Montclair, N.J., and Cape Cod, Mass. He graduated from Montclair High School and entered the U.S. Army
. After completing his service in the armed forces David attended the University of Illinois
, where he earned a master's degree in education.
David dedicated his life to education and worked as a teacher in the Caldwell, N.J., and Kingston, Mass., school districts. He was a member of the Masons and the Shriners. David also participated in many American Revolution colonial parades and re-enactments. He also had a deep love for woodworking.
David was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family.
He was predeceased by his two brothers, Richard and Robert Healy.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Karen (Fenwick) Healy, of Sandwich; son, Jon Healy and wife, Jill, of Sutton, Mass.; daughter, Sue Healy and husband, Phil Cohen, of South Orange, N.J.; three special grandchildren, Rachel Healy and Kermit and Calliope Cohen; sister, Betsy Shelby and husband, Gerry, of Georges Mills; sisters-in-law, Marion Healey of Fairfield, N.J., and Jane Healy of Harwich, Mass. David is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
services: A memorial service will be held at Mayhew Funeral Home, Routes 3 and 104, Meredith, on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Edward J. Charest, pastor emeritus of the Plymouth United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be private.
