CONCORD -- Elaine (Tagis) Anastos, 76, died Dec. 21, 2008, in Concord Hospital following a long, courageous battle with cancer.
She was a lifelong resident of Concord, born to Charles M. and Alice (Kouropoulos) Tagis Sept. 12, 1932. She attended Concord schools and graduated from Concord High School, Class of 1950.
She was employed by the N.H. Department of Revenue, Tobacco Tax Division as a secretary/account clerk.
She married Spiro A. Anastos Oct. 12, 1958, and moved to Goffstown where she lived for six years before returning to Concord where they lived for 44 years. She was a member of Priscilla Chapter No. 51 of Order of the Eastern Star, a life member of Concord Hospital Associates, past president and chairwoman of the flower committee for the Ladies Philoptochos Society of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. She also was organist and assistant director of the church choir for more than 40 years. She was also a volunteer at The Friendly Kitchen.
Family includes her husband of 50 years, Spiro Anastos of Concord; her mother, Alice Tagis of Concord; her sister, Christine Sconsa of Concord; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and great-grandnieces.
IN HER LIFE: Family members include her brother-in-law, George Anastos of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; a sister-in-law and her husband, Mary and Arthur Manos of Sun City, Ariz.; two sisters-in-law, Donna Anastos and Ola Anastos, both of Florida; two godsons, Thomas Kallechey of Manchester and Ernest Anastos of North Woodstock. She was also predeceased by three brothers-in-law, Charles Sconsa, Peter Anastos and John Anastos; and a sister-in-law, Thelma Anastos.
SERVICES: Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St. A Trisagion service is Sunday at 7 p.m. The funeral is Monday at noon in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, with the Rev. Fr. Agathonikos Wilson officiating, along with the Rev. Economos Angelo Pappas of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Portsmouth. Internment will be in Blossom Hill Cemetery, Concord.
