Eleanor Ambrose

DEERFIELD -- Eleanor Ambrose, 91, died July 23, 2008, at the Christiana Hospital in Stanton, Del.

She was born in Bradford, Mass., Oct. 16, 1916, to Albert and Sarah Hutchison. She attended high school in Haverhill, Mass., and was a graduate of Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Mrs. Ambrose began her career as an elementary school teacher in Haverhill, Mass.

She married Hollis Ambrose, and in 1952, they moved to Saint Paul's School in Concord, where her husband worked for 26 years. In Concord, Mrs. Ambrose taught at Millville School and later at Rumford School.

She and her husband retired to Deerfield in 1978. She enjoyed gardening, reading and had a lifelong interest in family and New Hampshire history. She was a life member of Daughters of the American Revolution, The General Society of Mayflower Descendants and an officer of the Deerfield Women's Club. She also volunteered for many years at the Deerfield Public Library.

She was predeceased by her husband.

Family includes sons William Ambrose of Newark, Del., and Charles Ambrose of Tucson, Ariz., and two grandsons.

SERVICES: A calling hour is Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main St., Concord. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. A reception will follow the service, prior to burial in Morrison Cemetery, Deerfield.
