Emery R. Roberts

CHOCORUA - Emery "Chief" R. Roberts, 91, of Chocorua, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Mineral Springs in North Conway. He was born in Chocorua, the youngest son of Harry and Alice (Perkins) Roberts on April 23, 1922.

Emery proudly served his country in World War II. He worked in the woods as a logger. He was a local general contractor and worked for the state of New Hampshire. He also was the road agent for the town of Tamworth for 30 years. Emery was named the "Road Agent of the Year" during his time as road agent.

Emery was a member of the Tamworth Fire Department, and served as the animal control officer, truant officer, and police chief, all for the town of Tamworth. Emery also was a special deputy for the Carroll County Sheriff's Department.

Emery took great pride in his family, country and his community. He was known to offer a helping hand to anyone who needed it. His community recognized him as Chocorua Citizen of the Year.

Emery was a proud member of the Mount Washington Valley Car Club, lifetime member of NIZA, and a member of the Ossipee Valley Mason Lodge. His love of hunting was well known by many.

Emery is survived by his wife of 68 years, Fayralyn "Babe" of Chocorua; his 12 children, Virginia and Douglas Welch, Ann Mudgett, Linda and Robert Harman, Jane Roberts and Raymond Waterhouse, Brenda Robinson and Ken Frost, Kerry Guptill, John and Dawn Roberts, Whipple and Jackleen Roberts, Parker Roberts, Richard Roberts, Melissa Smith, Kristie and Leni Saulnier and Jennifer A. "Herbie" Roberts. Emery also had 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother George, and two daughters.

services: A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m. at the Chocorua Cemetery, in Chocorua. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tamworth Community Nurses Association, or to the Town of Tamworth for the 4th of July celebrations. A time of fellowship and remembrance will follow the service at the Runnells Hall in Chocorua.

Lord Funeral Home, 50 Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee is assisting the family with arrangements.
