Bonita Springs, Fla. - Francis G. "Frank" Doherty, 82, of Londonderry and Bonita Springs, Fla., died Jan. 18, 2014.
Born in Boston, son of the late Francis and Marjorie (Cleary) Doherty, he was raised in Boston and Quincy, Mass., and graduated from North Quincy High School.
Mr. Doherty served for two years in the U.S. Navy
and then in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1952 to 1955 and was honorably discharged with the rank of petty officer first class.
Following his honorable discharge from the Coast Guard, Mr. Doherty worked as a mailer for the Boston Globe for 37 and was a member of Teamsters Local No. 1. He also served as deputy sheriff for the Norfolk County Sheriff's Department for 20 years.
A member of the Knights of Columbus of Quincy, Mass., he played the ukulele and was an active participant in the events at the Nevins and at his residence in Bonita Springs, where he spent winters.
He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia A. (Faherty) Doherty, and his son, Patrick F. Doherty, and is survived by his son, Michael F. Doherty and his wife, Corinne, of Charleston, S.C.; three daughters, Karen M. Doherty of Merrimack, Kathleen P. Carmody and her husband, Stephen, of Naples, Fla., and Kristine E. Larkin and her husband, Richard, of Groton, Mass.; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
services: His funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, at 11:30 a.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow. Burial with military honors will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Plaistow. Memorial donations may be made to the
