MANCHESTER - Frederick B. Kfoury Jr. of Manchester, died Feb. 19, 2013, suddenly.
He was the dear and devoted husband of Lois (Colyn); former spouse and dear friend of Debbie (Cheney) Thompson; loving father of Frederick B. Kfoury III and his wife, Christine, of Raymond, Christine Kfoury of Manchester, Matthew Kfoury and his wife, Julie, of Manchester, and the late Karen Kfoury.
He loved spending time with his family, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
He loved reading, skiing and collecting Teddy Bears. He was known fondly as "Mr. Bear."
He participated in the Catholic Medical Center Wellness Program. He was an avid sports fan, Red Sox fan and supporter of UNH Athletics.
Mr. Kfoury volunteered and contributed to countless non-profits and other charitable causes, local and statewide, including the United Way, Little League, Scouting, the SOAR Program, USSA Skiing, Easter Seals and Federated Arts-Manchester.
He was a graduate of Bishop Bradley High School, Class of 1960; a graduate of UNH, 1964, with a B.A. in history; and a graduate of Suffolk University, 1971, with an MBA. He was president of the class of 1964, UNH.
Mr. Kfoury was president of Central Paper Products Co. Inc. He ran his company like a family.
He was on the board of trustees of The Bishop's Fund, New Hampshire Institute of Art and Manchester Neighborhood Housing, Inc.
He was chairman, in 2010, of the National Paper Trade Association.
He was on the board of directors of SEE (Science Enrichment Encounter); past board of directors, First Place; board of directors of St. Joseph's Community Services (Meals on Wheels); advisory board, New Hampshire Employment Security; past board of directors, UNH Alumni Association; past board of directors, Child and Family Services; past board of directors, Moore Center and 2011 award recipient; and past commissioner, Manchester Housing & Redevelopment Authority.
He was the 1998 Citizen of the Year-Manchester.
He was also past chairman, Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce; past member of the board of trustees, Notre Dame College; founding and past member, board of Network Services; past chairman of the board of Network Associates (1992-1994); past member, board of directors of N.H. Savings Bank; past member of board of incorporators of Keep Manchester Beautiful; past president of the American Lebanese Awareness Association (an organization dedicated to raising scholarship dollars for Lebanese-American students); and program supervisor, Pats Peak Ski Area Weekend Children's Program.
He received many awards: 1996 National Paper Trade Association Stanley O. Styles Industry Excellence Award for contributions to the industry; 1998 Caregiver of the Year, Caregiver Association of Manchester; 2004 UNH Alumni Meritorious Service Award (AMSA); 2004 Good Samaritan Award; 2007 NH Business Review Lifetime Excellence Award; and the 2010 Profile of Service Award, UNH.
He was the cherished grandfather, "Jiddo," of Kaleigh, James, Natalie, Logan, Rick, Allie, Decoda, Sam, Ben and Kasey; and proud great-grandfather of Lilly; dear brother of Carol Bednarowski of Manchester, Richard J. Kfoury of Rye and Dr. Peter W. Kfoury of South Carolina. He was also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, as well as his Central Paper family.
services: Visiting hours are Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory 1799 Elm St. Manchester. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Cedars Church in Manchester. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
