AMHERST - Kenneth W. McGrath, 88, of Amherst, died July 17, 2014, at Catholic Medical Center after a brief illness.He was born in Boston on July 31, 1925, to Morton and Jennie (LaButa) McGrath.He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., and his MBA from Boston College. He lived in Massachusetts at Cambridge, Lexington and Attleboro before moving to Amherst 31 years ago.During World War II
, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps
in Guam and China.Mr. McGrath was an engineer with Kennecott Copper Corporation for many years. He also worked at Balfour Company and Speidel.He volunteered with Service Corps of Retired Executives. He was also an avid woodworker and enjoyed golf.The family includes his wife of 58 years, Christine (Langer) McGrath of Bedford; three children, Michael McGrath and his wife, Linda, of Hudson, Mass., Alan McGrath of Washington, D.C., and Barbara Bollinger and her husband, Steven, of St. Cloud, Minn.; four grandchildren; and cousins and nieces.He was predeceased by two brothers, Morty McGrath and Allen McGrath.
SERVICES: There are no calling hours.
