GOFFSTOWN - Lawrence A. Emerton Sr. died March 9, 2014, following a brief illness. Born in Concord, he has resided in Goffstown since 1961. He was the son of Fred and Margery (Lawrence) Emerton.Larry was the owner-operator of Larry Emerton Appraisers for 46 years. He was a member of the Goffstown Lions Club for more than 55 years, serving twice as president. He also served the Lions Club at the national level as international director.He will be remembered as a dedicated member of the community who was involved with countless town activities and organizations, including Goffstown Historical Society, School Board moderator, Planning Board, Goffstown American Legion Post 16 and Goffstown Little League. He loved baseball. You could always go to a Little League game, a Babe Ruth game, or a Goffstown High School or American Legion game and see Larry. He loved watching his son and daughter, grandsons and great-grandsons play ball for all the Goffstown teams. He worked tirelessly at the local fields, making sure that all "G-Town" players had a safe and fun place to play, especially his beloved Lions Field. Even into his 80s, you could find him at the field, raking, cleaning up and just spending time at the place he loved most.He worked for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department for several years. He served as a state representative for 24 years, working as chairman for several committees.He loved Goffstown. He and Elaine vacationed in Aruba for more than 22 years and spent many summers at York Beach, Maine, winters in North Conway and traveled around the world with the Lions Club, but he always came back to the town he loved.Larry was an avid outdoorsman - he loved to hunt and fish when he lived in the North Country. He loved to ski, and he taught his children how to ski when they were very young at several N.H. ski areas, Wildcat, Cranmore, Jackson and Sunapee to name a few.A veteran of World War II
, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps
from 1946 to 1953.Members of his family include his wife, Elaine Emerton of Goffstown; two children, Lawrence A. "Lonny" Emerton Jr. and wife Janice of Goffstown, and Dianne A. Hogan and husband Michael of Twin Mountain; five grandchildren, Kevin, Sara, Corinne, Tammy and Scott; and four great-grandchildren, Jaylen, Colby, Emilia and Maddox.He accomplished so much throughout his life. He has left a smile in so many hearts around the world - he was a man who lived an amazing life; a man who loved his family so dearly and was loved so fiercely, it cannot even be put into words; a man who loved and cared about people - all people - and worked tirelessly to improve the lives of those around him; a man whose legacy will be felt forever. He was an angel on Earth and will be an angel in heaven. Godspeed..
SERVICES: Calling hours will be Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at French and Rising Funeral Home, 17 S. Mast St., Goffstown.Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home.
