GOFFSTOWN - Llewellyn "Lew" Thomas Barnard, 83, of Goffstown, died on April 28 at a Merrimack healthcare facility after a brief but severe illness. Lew was born in Staten Island, New York, to Ernest Barnard and Florence (Faltin) Barnard.
Lew worked for many years as a mechanic and driver at J. E. Faltin Motor Transportation Company, which was a family business, as well as other transportation companies throughout New Hampshire. Lew loved to talk and to listen, and it didn't matter if it was a presidential candidate or a random person walking down the street, he enjoyed hearing their stories and sharing his own. Lew liked to understand what made people who they were and had the gift of seeing the best in people no matter how many times they showed him their worst. It was with that same inquisitive, humorous spirit that he approached his life and acquaintances, and the diagnosis that he did not have much longer to live.
His active mind and heart were always involved with the lives of his children, grandchildren, brother, sister, sister-in-law and many friends, all of whom he loved very much.
He is survived by his daughter Deborah Gelinas and her husband Bruce of Hooksett; of Hooksett; son Bruce Barnard of Atlanta; and daughter Carrie Jones of Bar Harbor, Maine; great lifetime friend and brother, Kilton Barnard of Goffstown and his wife Jody; sister Lee Barnard of Des Moines, Iowa; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents and many friends.
