Robert J. Silva

DUNBARTON - Robert J. Silva, 71, of Dunbarton, died peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Robert was born in Manchester on Jan. 1, 1942, and was the son of Joseph and Claudine (deLangis) Silva. He leaves behind one sister, Muriel Harding of Delaware. He attended Bishop Bradley High School. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army.

Robert was a visionary and along with his former wife, Gail Silva, decided to build a campground in Weare. In 1969, they purchased 15 acres and started clearing land, building sites and Cold Springs Camp Resort was born. In 1978, Robert started selling RV's from his private driveway. As business increased, he moved to New Boston and opened Cold Springs RV. In 1987, a new dealership was built in Weare. The new dealership is contiguous to the campground, sitting on 180-plus acres and is a destination for RV'ers from all around.

Robert had many interests including Harleys, cars and poker. He enjoyed spending time at both of his residences, Lake Winnipesaukee and Dunbarton. His leisure time was filled with his family, friends and his much adored shih tzu, Cleo.

Robert is survived by his former wife, Gail (Carson) Silva; his two sons, Scott and his wife, Christine, and Todd and his wife, Michele; and his four grandchildren, Jillian, Alycia, Alexa and Jake, all of Weare.
