Roland H. Schreiber

FREMONT - Roland H. Schreiber, 88, of Fremont, died unexpectedly on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2012.

Born in Bedford on June 15, 1924, Roland spent most of his life in Fremont, where he enjoyed maintaining his property overlooking fields and farmland.

At age 19, Roland joined the Army in 1943 and earned several medals during tours in New Guinea, the Philippines and Luzon during World War II.

After four years in the military, Roland worked for the highway department in Bedford and later operated dairy farms in Fremont and Plaistow. He also owned and operated school buses for the Fremont School District and performed masonry work with his brother, William Schreiber.

Roland ran his own firewood and haying business for many years before retiring in the late 1980s.

He never hesitated to help family and friends with building projects and was known for keeping a well-manicured lawn. He also had a passion for woodworking.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alberta (Peterson) Schreiber; his son, Eric Schreiber Sr. and his wife, Carol, of Fremont; two grandsons, Eric Schreiber Jr. of Raymond and Jason Schreiber of Fremont; two great-grandchildren, Declan and Dacey Schreiber of Fremont; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his two brothers, William and Robert Schreiber.

There will be no services.
