LINCOLN -- Sarah L. Adams, 81, longtime resident of Wellesley Hills, Mass., died June 15, 2009, at the Tippett Home in Needham, Mass.
She was born in Lincoln on Jan. 4, 1928, the daughter of Sherman and Rachael W. Adams. She attended Lincoln schools and was a graduate of Northfield School for Girls, where she sang in the Glee Club.
She received a bachelor's degree from Lesley College in 1953 and a master's degree from Boston University Graduate School of Education in 1967.
A kindergarten and second grade teacher, she worked at the Johnson School in Natick, Mass., and other Natick schools for 38 years until her retirement in 1996.
For 40 years, she summered on Nantucket Island and was a member of the Wharf Rat Club. She was also a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, the English Speaking Union of Boston, the former Women's City Club of Boston, the Wellesley Tennis Association and the Wellesley College Club.
She enjoyed ballroom dancing and attended dances with Margaret Howell & Associates, Boston Waltz Group and Sheraton Dinner Dances. She was an excellent cook and attended the Fanny Farmer Cooking School in Boston. She attended services at the Church of the Advent in Beacon Hill, Trinity Episcopal Church in Copley Square and Old North Church in the North End.
Sarah was preceded in death by her sister and a brother.
The family includes a sister, Marian A. Freese of Pittsfield; five nephews; and six nieces
SERVICES: A service in celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Church of the Messiah, Episcopal Church in North Woodstock with the Rev. Teresa Gocha presiding.
Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Lincoln. Edmund Fournier Funeral Services, 144 Main St., North Woodstock, is handling arrangements.
