William B. Mann

Hillsborough - William Bruce Mann died at home on Jan. 6, 2013, surrounded by his family.

Bruce was born on Jan. 22, 1945, to Douglas and Doris (Fish) Mann in Framingham, Mass. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Judy Donnellon.

He attended Fay School in Southborough, Mass., and spent school and summer vacations at the family home in Hopkinton. He graduated from Worcester State College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration followed by a Master of Education in counselor education, as well as a master's in communication disorders.

Bruce was a veteran of the Vietnam War in C Troop, 11th Armored Calvary Regiment, U.S. Army, serving from 1967 to 1970. As a staff sergeant, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Army Commendation Medal among other decorations and badges. His unrelenting loyalty, initiative and perseverance brought him wide acclaim and inspiration to others during his military career. The VA was a monumental part of his life, where he devotedly worked for the Veterans Center in Manchester, counseling veterans and their families. His discipline and patriotism carried him through the remainder of his life, loving his country.

Prior to retirement, Bruce worked at the IRS in public relations. He enjoyed nature and the outdoors. He was enthusiastic about antiques, an excellent woodworker, an avid skier and skilled athlete. He had a great appreciation and love for music and poetry. Bruce was a man of great honor and devotion.

Bruce is survived by spouse Mary (Maria) of 17 years of marriage; two children, Kimberly (Mann) DiMasi and Justin, from his first marriage to Cleo (Mann) Malcolm; a brother, Rocky; four grandchildren; a nephew; and other family and friends.

services: The memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Hillsboro Baptist Church. The gathering of family, friends and neighbors will be held at the church at 1 p.m. The Interment ceremony will be Monday, Jan. 14, at the N.H. State Veterans Cemetery at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Manchester Community College, c/o Student Veterans Funds, 1066 Front St., Manchester 03102.
