NORTHFIELD -- Adelard E. "Al" Bachler, 88, of Franklin, formerly of Northfield and Salem, died Feb. 27, 2011, at Franklin Regional Hospital.
He was born June 12, 1922, in Lawrence, Mass., to Emile and Albertine (Bergeron) Bachler.
He attended Sacred Heart School and Central Catholic High School in Lawrence.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of Word War II, serving in an anti-aircraft battalion. While in preparation for D-Day, he was severely injured. After recovering, he was able to rejoin his unit in France and was able to meet his paternal grandparents.
A longtime resident of Salem, he started and ran his own building contractor business for many years. Following retirement, he moved to Northfield.
He was a Third and Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 40 years.
He served in every office in the Third Degree Council and Fourth Degree Assembly, except Grand Knight. He belonged to Councils in Salem, Derry, Franklin, and Tilton.
He was a member of the DAV and Catholic War Veterans.
Family members include his wife of 62 years, Therese (Jacques) Bachler of Franklin, two daughters: Elaine Murphy of Northfield and Barbara Lowe of Manchester; two sons: Donald Bachler of Tilton and Robert Bachler of Franklin, a brother, Raymond Bachler of Derry, 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and two nephews.
SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Paquette-Neun Funeral Home, 104 Park St., Northfield.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday to St. Paul Church, Franklin at 10 a.m.
Burial with military honors will follow in New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery.
