PEMBROKE - Barbara H. Matava, 85, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Concord Hospital.

Born in Franklin, she was the daughter of Robert T. and Frances (Cunningham) Hoyt. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1946 and from Plymouth State College in 1950.
She was a teacher for 28 years, with 23 of them in the Concord School District. She retired in 1988. Following her retirement, she volunteered at the former Odd Fellows Home and then joined the staff working in the Activities Department for three years.
She was a member of the Pembroke Congregational Church for over 50 years, serving on several boards and committees. She was also a volunteer at the Pembroke Library and a member of the Merrimack Valley Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Harold H. Matava of Pembroke; a daughter, Lynn M. Matava of Pembroke; a brother, Richard Hoyt of Royalton, Ohio; two grandsons, Matthew Matava of Northfield and his wife, Katie, and Jeffrey Matava and his wife, Lauren, of Canterbury; five great-granddaughters; a nephew, Robert Hoyt and his wife, Sherri; and two grand-nieces.
She was predeceased by her son Bruce Robert Matava and infant son Jeffrey Hoyt Matava..
SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett Funeral Home, 3 Church St., Chapel (the Brick Building).
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Pembroke Congregational Church, 301 Pembroke St., Pembroke.
Burial will follow at Franklin Cemetery in Franklin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CRVNA Homecare, 30 Pillsbury St., Concord, NH 03301 or Pembroke Congregational Church.
