MEDFORD, Mass. - Claire M. Sargent, 84, passed away on Jan. 13, 2013.

She was born in Somerville, on Sept. 26, 1928, to her parents, Mary (Robinson) and Thomas McNeill.
Claire was raised and educated in Somerville. She has lived most of her adult life in Medford. For many years, Claire worked as a sales clerk at Ames (formerly Zayre's) Department Store in Medford. She was a resident of Weldon Manor in Medford, where she was active in the tenants association and made many lasting friendships.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Tanner and her husband, Mark, of Rindge, N.H.; by her grandchildren, Erin and Kaelee Tanner of Rindge, N.H., and John Tanner of Stoddard, N.H.; and by her great-grandchildren, Jamie Carney and Kathryn Tanner. She is also survived by her nieces, Gail Sullivan of Melrose and Joan Sullivan of Malden, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
services: Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden, on Friday, Jan. 18, at 8 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden, at 9 a.m.
Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 17, from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will take place in Hillside Cemetery in Rindge, N.H., in the spring.
