BEDFORD - Dorothy Jenkins, 86, died Jan. 29, 2013, at Ridgewood Healthcare Center in Bedford.
The Guest Book is expired.
She was born in Manchester on May 25, 1926, the daughter of Frank and Lillian (Brown) MacDonald.
Dorothy graduated from Manchester High School West in 1944. She attended Mount Saint Mary's College in Hooksett and graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Manchester in 1948.
In 1950, she married the love of her life, Earle Maxfield Jenkins Jr. While dating, they watched the movie "Cheaper by the Dozen" and professed their desire to have a dozen children. God blessed them with six.
Dorothy loved her life. She cherished her memories -memories of a wonderful childhood, of her teenage years, of traveling with her family and living in Germany after the war, of motherhood, of singing and playing the piano. She had wonderful memories of her nursing career, of her grandchildren, and so many other memories of a life filled with love. These memories sustained her as she struggled with the ravages of Alzheimer's disease.
Dorothy was widowed in 1994 and was predeceased by her sister, Katherine MacDonald. Members of her family include six children: David Jenkins of Dunbarton, Judith Jenkins of Manchester, Stephen Jenkins of Goffstown, Earle Jenkins III of Bedford, Barbara Tarlowski of Bedford and Daniel Jenkins of Bedford. She had 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her younger sister, Marion MacDonald of Manchester. The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff at Ridgewood Healthcare Center for the love and support given to Dorothy and her family during the past several years.
