BOW -- George Bartemus, 90, of Lincoln Drive, died July 8, 2008, after a brief illness, at home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Concord, to George and Mary (Pendergast) Bartemus Sr. He was a graduate of Concord High School in 1934. He attended New Hampton School where he was on the soccer and ice hockey teams. He received his degree from Nichols Business College in 1937.

He worked at his family's business, G.N Bartemus and Company Grain for many years before going to work as a civil engineer and land surveyor for the State of New Hampshire for more than 40 years.

He was a member of the Profile Auto League, Canoe Club, Licensed Land Surveyors, National Railway Historical Society, NH Boat Museum, Classic Car Club of America, Packard Automobile Classics, Inc., and Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club, and a supporter of the National Association of Rail Road Passengers.

IN HIS LIFE: He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Madeline Irving Bartemus of Bow; two stepsons, Henry B. Lupien and his wife, Sharon, of Weare, and Marshall T. Irving and his wife, Tammy, of Brentwood; a stepdaughter, Janette Lee Irving of Tucker, Ga.; 5 step-grandchildren, Eric Burbidge, Greg Lupien and his wife, Sara, Melissa Coulombe and her husband, Ernest, Bailey Irving and Marshall R.T Irving; three great-grandchildren; his brother, John W. Bartemus and his wife, MaryJane, of Rochester, N.Y; and six beloved nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Stella Auclair Bartemus, in 1984.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will not be held. A funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Blossom Hill Cemetery, 207 North State St., Concord. The Rev. George Desjardins will officiate.
