CONCORD - Grace Margaret Meme' Walker, 78, of Concord, passed away Saturday evening, Sept. 22, 2012, at Concord Hospital surrounded by her family.
The Guest Book is expired.
Grace was born in Port-of-Spain Trinidad in the British West Indies. She resided there until she met her husband, Don. They married and moved to Concord where they raised their family.
As the oldest of nine siblings Grace was a very dynamic and outspoken individual. Grace had many passions in her life. She had three passions that never wavered: family, friends and involvement in her community. She was active in her children's schools, politics and community projects and organizations. She worked outside of the home for most of her life. She managed the first Credit Union in Concord, co-founded Heaven's Creations & Mom's Two children's shop, PR at Concord Savings Bank, USAID in Kingston, Jamaica, FEMA and New Hampshire Office of Emergency Management. She also served on a number of boards including: CRVNA, NH Credit Union League, Family Financial Counseling, school board at Bishop Brady High School, executive director for the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce, Concord Boys and Girls Club, city of Concord Planning Board and the Concord City Council for 10 years. Of all her civic accomplishments she was most proud of being a citizen of the U.S.A.
Grace and Don lived in East Concord for most of their lives and later moved to the south end of Concord. Just three years ago Grace moved to Havenwood/Heritage Heights where she became a very active member of the Heritage Heights Community. She loved flowers and plants and made sure her small yard was full of blooms and vines as long as the season and management would allow. Grace had a way of making things her own. As she used to tell us often, "I love living here."
Grace was predeceased by her loving husband, Donald S. Walker, a son, Bruce Walker, her parents and siblings. She leaves behind a son, Scott Walker and his wife, Claudia of Concord, daughter, Donna Rice of Concord, daughter, Debra Wallingford of Castle Rock, Colo., son, Glenn Walker and his wife, Leslie of Chichester. She has several siblings living in various countries around the world. Grace leaves behind the light of her life' her eight grandchildren: Morgan Walker of Concord, Sydney Rice of Boston, Augusta Rice of Concord, Nathan and Oliver Walker of Chichester, Madeline, Myles and Maxwell Wallingford of Castle Rock, Colo.
