Irene McDevitt Obituary

DERRY - Irene M. (Czarnik) McDevitt, 86, of Derry, died Aug. 26, 2011, at Parkland Medical Center.
She was born in Ludlow, Mass., June 2, 1925, daughter of the late Martin and Julia (Wojcik) Czarnik.
For many years she lived and raised her family in Dover. For the past year, she resided at Birch Heights Retirement Community in Derry.
She graduated nursing school from the Springfield Hospital School of Nursing in 1946 and was a registered nurse for over 50 years. She was a past parishioner of St. Catherine Church in Manchester and currently a parishioner of Holy Cross Church in Derry. She was the widow of John P. McDevitt, who died in 1980. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She was so proud of them.
Family members include two sons, Timothy E. McDevitt of Clinton, Conn., and Dennis M. McDevitt of Raleigh, N.C.; four daughters, Susan J. Karsten of Campton, Debbie A. Finch of Candia, Marcia J. Conte of Ithaca, N.Y., and Tricia J. McDevitt of Bonita Springs, Fla.; eight loving grandchildren, Matthew, Lindsay, Troy, Katy, Alexandra, Anna, Ryan, and Megan; a sister, Jean Kennedy of Lebanon, Ohio; and nephews, nieces and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Czarnik.

SERVICES: Calling hours are Wednesday, Aug. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St., Manchester. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, Sept. 1, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Catherine Church, Manchester. Committal services will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dover. Her professionalism and caring kindness touched all of the Residents and laid a wonderful foundation for my career. She spoke of her children and family often.
