MANCHESTER - Joan L. White, 82, died Dec. 15, 2012. at Elliot Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born in Manchester on March 25, 1930, the daughter of William E. and Margaret Helena "Lena" (Fitzgerald) Lauffenberger and had been a lifelong resident of Manchester.
She graduated from St. Joseph High School for Girls, class of 1947, and Hesser Business College, class of 1949, with an associates degree in business. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was a librarian at the Hallsville School in Manchester for 23 years, retiring in 2008 at the age of 78. She found great enjoyment in reading to children. She was a parishioner of St. Raphael Church and a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox.
She was predeceased by her husband, John M. White, on Nov. 14, 2006.
Family members include her son, Lawrence William White and his wife, Sandra Ratcliffe of Dublin, Ireland; four daughters: Marilyn Delay and her husband, Dennis of Manchester, Christine Thorn and her husband, Robert of Paxton, Mass., Cynthia Dixon and her husband, John of Stratham and Carolyn Beth Gamtso and her husband, Darjee of Manchester. She also leaves her grandchildren, Mary Delay of Goffstown, Caitlin and Dylan Delay of Manchester, Ellsbeth (Thorn) Cundall and her husband, Joseph of Brookline, Mass., Gregory and Joanna Dixon of Stratham and Tenzin Gamtso of Manchester; one sister, Jeanne Fitzgerald of Goffstown and one nephew, Michael Michalek and his wife, Joanne Morlan of Watertown, Mass.
She was predeceased by her infant grandson, William T. Thorn, in 1991, and her niece, Donna Michalek in 2012.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Durning, Bykowski & Young Funeral Home, 285 Manchester St.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Raphael Church, 103 Walker St.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Bedford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Raphael Food Pantry, 103 Walker St., Manchester 03102.
The Durning, Bykowski & Young Funeral Home, 285 Manchester St., is assisting with arrangements.
