WILMOT - Katherine Talcott Clough, 91, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died peacefully, Jan. 18, 2013, at Woodcrest Village, New London. She was surrounded by her children and family at the time of her passing.

She was born Nov. 19, 1921, in New Rochelle, N.Y., to the late Harry Pickard Talcott and Evelyn Macon Atwood Talcott. She was also the great-granddaughter of James Madison Macon, nephew of President James Madison. Raised in New York, she married William Stocker Clough Jr., lieutenant, junior grade, U.S. Navy, who was stationed in Cape May, N.J., on June 16, 1943. They moved to Bedford, N.Y., where they lived for 25 years, then resided in Nassau, NP, Bahamas, for several years and Northfield, Ill., before retiring in New Hampshire.

She was devoted to her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved gardening, telling stories, dancing, playing bridge with her friends, reading historical novels and preserving mementos related to her family history. She was devoted to her pets and always had a four-legged, furry friend by her side. She loved the semi-annual "Banner Lodge" family gatherings at Christmas which included at least 20 family members, seven dogs and one cat. She had an incredible capacity for joy and knew how to make everyone around her feel comfortable, appreciated and loved.

She was predeceased by her husband and her daughter, Louise C. Bramhall. She is survived by her son Terry and his wife Gail of New York, N.Y.; her daughter Conny and her husband David, of Williamsburg, Va.; and her son-in-law, R. Billings Bramhall of Gloucester, Mass. She has five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren residing in Vermont, New York, Virginia and South Carolina.


services: A celebration of life gathering in her honor will be held later this spring in New London. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurses Association, 107 Newport Road, New London, 03257, or to the New London Fire Department, 237 Main St., New London, 03257.
