GREENLAND - Katherine "Kay" (Nathaniel) Coberth, 85, a longtime resident of Greenland, died Friday, April 13, 2012, at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover.

She was born on June 6, 1926, a daughter of the late James and Arita (Skiloginis) Nathaniel and the wife of the late M. David Coberth.

Katherine was a graduate of Goffstown High School, Class of 1945, where she was captain of her basketball team.

She was a graduate of Houle's Beauty School in Manchester.

She was employed for many years by the former Rich's Department Store in Portsmouth. Katherine was a member of the Greenland Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered at the Weeks Library in Greenland and the American Red Cross.

Katherine was a member of the Greenland Congregational Community Church. She enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing cards.

She is survived by her daughter, Roxanne O'Donoghue, and her husband, James, of Portsmouth; her son, David Coberth and his wife, Jennifer, of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; four grandchildren, Katherine Adams and her husband, Chad, of Athens, Ga; Devon McDonald and her husband, Nicholas, of Boston; Tess McWilliams and her husband, Scott, of Silsbee, Texas, and Drew Warwick of Merrimac, Mass.; two great-grandchildren, David Seth Adams of Athens, Ga., and Isabella Katherine McWilliams of Silsbee, Texas; many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Katherine was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Dement; granddaughter, Sarah Coberth; sister, Genola Johnson; and brothers, Kemo, George and Christopher Nathaniel.


SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 27, at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, at the Greenland Congregational Community Church, Post Road, Greenland. Friends invited.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sarah Elizabeth Coberth Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc., c/o D. McDonald, 328 Commercial St., Apt. 25, Boston, MA 02109 and/or Hyder Family Hospice House, 285 County Farm Road, Dover, 03820.
