ALLENSTOWN - Leona M. (Shute) Herron, 85, died at the Maple Leaf Health Care Center on Dec. 3, 2012, after a brief illness.

Leona was born in North Haverhill on April 9, 1927, to Stanley and Mary (Ingerson) Shute. She was a resident of the Pembroke-Allenstown area for more than 50 years.
Leona was a professional cook. She worked at the Webster Street Children's Home in Manchester from 1963 to 1968 and then at the Gale Nursing Home until she retired in 2004. A member of the N.H. Dietary Managers Association, she was featured in the Union Leader as a "Cook of the Week" in 1991. Leona enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards and gardening.
She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Raymond Herron, in 1998. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Lawrence Shute and Stanley Shute of North Haverhill.
She is survived by three children, Ellen Coleman of Bow, Lora Martin of Pembroke and David Herron of Allenstown; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Elsie Elwood of Brentwood.
SERVICES: Friends and family are invited to share memories at the Petit Funeral Home, 167 Main St., Pembroke, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial in the Center Haverhill Cemetery at 1 p.m.
