MERRIMACK - Louis R. "Skip" Watkins, 64, life long resident of Merrimack, died Friday Feb 15, 2013, at his home after a sudden illness.

He was born in Manchester, on Dec. 22, 1948, a son of Ruth M. (Burbank) Watkins of St. Teresa Manor in Manchester and the late Louis H Watkins.

Mr. Watkins went to Merrimack schools and graduated from Keene State College in 1971 with a degree in general science. In 1973 he became a teacher at the Mastricola Middle School, beginning an amazing 35-year career. For 22 years he was a science teacher, a housemaster/science coordinator for nine years and computer education specialist for four years.

Skip served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1972, and then the Army National Guard of New Hampshire from 1975 until 1977.

Mr. Watkins was also a self-employed carpenter and loved playing golf. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church.

He loved kids and was always a joy to be around.

In addition to his mother, members of his family include his wife, Rachel (Roy) Watkins of Merrimack; a son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Jenni Watkins of Derry, and a daughter and son-in-law, Mandi-Bre and Seth Watson, of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren, Dylan, Danica, and Adeline Watson, and Annamae Watkins; two sisters and two brothers- in-law, Donna and Peter Wood of Arab, Ala., and Annie and Norton Best of Canada, an uncle Leroy Burbank of Bedford; two aunts, Edna Klardie of Merrimack and Ida Heath of Berwick, Maine, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

SERVICES: Calling hours will be in Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack, Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mercy Church, 16 Baboosic Lake Road, Merrimack, Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Last Rest Cemetery, Merrimack. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the NH, 5 Bedford Farms Dr., Bedford, 03110.
