MERRIMACK - Richard C. Aldrich, 82, of Merrimack, passed peacefully on Jan. 1, 2014, with family by his side at Casey House in Rockville, Md.

Born on Aug. 11, 1931, in Nashua, Richard was the son of the late Ralph A. and Margaret (DesRochers) Aldrich. He graduated from Nashua High School in 1948.His patriotism unwavering, Richard displayed a love for his country throughout his entire life. He served for 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, during the Korean War, Cold War and two tours in Vietnam. He flew for the Strategic Air Command as an Electronic Warfare Officer on nuclear-armed B52 aircraft. Retiring in California as a major, he received several medals including the Bronze Star. Richard volunteered for many organizations including Pro-Gun New Hampshire, Second Amendment Sisters, the VFW and its elite honor-degree affiliate, Military Order of the Cootie. He will be remembered for his friendship and sense of humor; often quick with a joke and a story.He is survived by his daughters, Vanessa (Doug) Heck of Maryland and Mei Li (Alan) Kronenfeld of Arkansas; brother Earl (Marie) Aldrich of New Hampshire; granddaughter Jaden, grandsons Joshua and Jack, and extended family. He was predeceased by his former spouse, Barbara J. (McIlroy) Aldrich. He not only leaves his family but a multitude of friends from all phases of his life.

Interment with military honors will be announced in the spring. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Richard's memory to Casey House - Montgomery Hospice 6001 Muncaster Mill Road Rockville, MD 20855, at www.montgomeryhospice.org.
