MANCHESTER - Robert A. Butkus, 50, of Manchester, died July 10, 2012, at Elliot Hospital after a sudden illness.

He was born in Gardner, Mass., on Jan. 9, 1962, to Anthony and Martha (Anderson) Butkus. He was a graduate of Central High School in 1981 and lived in Manchester for most of his life.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1982 to 1985. He later worked for CLS Trucking Company for many years.
Robert was a baseball coach at Manchester South Little League and a football coach for Manchester South Sabres. He was a very active dad, following his daughter's cheerleading competitions all over the U.S. He was also an advocate of many sports and especially enjoyed Boston College and the University of Oregon football and basketball.
He was very involved with his children's activities. He also enjoyed time spent with his friends from Mantown.
The family includes two children, Ashley L. Butkus and Matthew R. Butkus, both of Manchester; his mother, Martha (Anderson) Butkus of Meredith; two brothers, Jack Anderson and David Butkus, both of Manchester; a nephew, Adam Butkus of Florida and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: Calling hours are Thursday, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., corner of North Street, Manchester.
The funeral is Friday, at 10 a.m., at Brookside Congregational Church, 2013 Elm St., Manchester. The Rev. Dawn Berry will officiate.
