MANCHESTER - Timothy "Tim" Adams, 97, of Manchester, died peacefully in his sleep Feb. 25, 2014, at the Villa Crest Nursing and Retirement Center with his family by his side.Tim was born on Dec. 23, 1916, and named Efthemios Kassiaras, in New Bedford, Mass., to Anna Kassarios. He changed his name to Timothy Adams in 1938. Tim grew up in Manchester and attended Central High School. He wore many hats in his early years - shoe worker, soda jerk, elevator operator, bar owner - and worked at the VA hospital for 21 years until retiring in 1978. He served in the Army from 1938 to 1940 and the Navy from 1942 to 1945, when he returned to Manchester to raise a family with Ellen, his wife of 68 years.Tim was predeceased by his son, Arthur. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ellen (Vaios) Adams; his son Jim and wife Ann of Dublin; four grandchildren, Lance Adams of Seattle, Wash., Aaron Adams of Yakima, Wash., Maria (Adams) Shea of Denver, Colo., and Nicholas Adams of Peterborough; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: Per Tim's request, there will be no calling hours. Burial will be in the spring in Pine Grove Cemetery at the convenience of the family.The family requests that no flowers be sent.
