Walter Joseph Harlan, Jr., 82, formally of Manchester, N.H. passed away on Nov. 26, 2012, after a brief illness in Fort Myers, Fla.. He was in the company of his wife Suzanne Bournival Harlan.

Born on Sept. 28, 1930, in Manchester, Walter graduated from Central High School in 1948 and then attended Saint Anselm College. He served his country in the U.S. Army. A successful local businessman, for many years he worked in the automobile industry, then later owning the Bedford furniture store, Giant Furniture, before retiring to Florida in the late 1990s.
Walter's lifelong devotion to his family and friends truly defined him. He was a good friend to many and was always available to help others with projects, repairs or whatever else they needed him for. He is survived and sorely missed by his wife Suzanne, his loving children and their spouses: daughter Karri and her husband, Michael Husson of Manchester; son Thomas and his wife, Ann of Carrollton, Texas; son David and his wife, Michele of Manchester and daughter Kristine and her husband, Eduardo Young, of San Isidro, Buenos Aries, Argentina.
Walter was an avid golfer and enjoyed many years of family travel. More recently he enjoyed mastering the crosswords and following his favorite sports teams. He read several daily newspapers and followed the Union Leader online edition; he loved to be up to date on current events and trends. He was especially fond of his good friends at East Side Auto.
Walter was much beloved by all and will be greatly missed. A celebration of his life will be held at the convenience of his family.
