CANDIA - Winston T. Leavitt Sr., 93, of Candia, died at home on Feb. 8, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 25, 1919, in Claremont, the son of the late Earle Elmer and Hattie (Turner) Leavitt.
Winston graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1941 with a degree in engineering and a commission as a first lieutenant in the Coast Artillery Regiment stationed at Camp Edwards in Massachusetts. His unit was one of the first anti-aircraft groups deployed to the Pacific Theater. He saw combat at Fort Moresby, New Guinea. After the war, Winston worked for New England Telephone and AT&T as an engineering manager for his entire career.
He and his late wife, Jeanette, lived in many locations on the East Coast before returning to New Hampshire after retirement. He and Jan enjoyed golf, tennis and gardening, both in Florida during the winter months and in Candia in the summer. Winston was member and past president of the Manchester Unitarian Church and was active in the National Association of Leavitt Families, both as past president and newsletter editor.
He is survived by his four sons and their wives, Winston T. Leavitt Jr. of Sunrise, Fla., and his wife, Sharon, William Leavitt of Virginia Beach, Va., and his wife, Nancy, Douglas Leavitt of Deerfield and his wife, Karen, and Roger Leavitt of Candia and his wife, Sandy; his sister, Margaret Baney of California; and his brother, Warren Leavitt of Oklahoma. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Peter, Jeffrey, Meredith, Lindsay, Andrew, Leigh and Steven; and two great-grandchildren, Julia and Nathan.
Winston is predeceased by his wife of 61 years Jeanette (Peno) Leavitt.
services: A spring burial will take place at the family's convenience.
